Are you interested in trying whitewater rafting, but have young children? No problem. At Outdoor Rafting Adventures, we can accommodate rafters of all experience levels (newbie to expert) and kids as young as three.
It’s important to note that there are two distinct sections of the Big Pigeon River: Upper and Lower.
The Upper section of the river provides an exciting whitewater rafting trip with continuous class III-IV rapids. It’s suitable for beginners and non-swimmers, but it can get intense in a few spots. For that reason, we require that all rafters be at least 8 years old.
The Lower section is perfect for younger rafters. The rapids are considerably smaller and less intense, so we allow children as young as 3 years old. Our guides will ensure a fun and safe experience for your kids, teaching them the ropes and educating them on the area. (Did you know, for instance, that the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to over 200 kinds of birds and 80 types of reptiles/amphibians?)
If you’re unsure about which section of the river you should take, feel free to consult with one of our guides. They’ll be able to help you decide which section will ensure you and your group have the best experience possible! If you’re comfortable taking the Upper section, great! And if you’d like to get your feet wet before diving in, that’s great, too! We’ll make sure your whitewater rafting trip is unforgettable.
